By Jon Gledhill

A summary from the League Chairman

Promotion/Relegation 2017
Another season over, my 37th in the League.
Dropping down into our Div 1 next year from the County League will be Cheadle Hulme and Bredbury St Marks,
while Weaverham & Middlewich will take the drop to our Div A.

Div 1
Runcorn clinched the title with a win over Disley while Hale Barns lost to Haslington.

Champions :- Runcorn
Runners up :- Hale Barns
Both are promoted to the County League Div 2 next year, subject to confirmation by the County League.

Relegated :- Middlewich & Irby

Div 2
Kingsley were already Champions and beat Chelford in the last match, Chelford soon securing the single
point they needed to avoid the drop. It was nearly a bit tight for Prestbury in 2nd, but they secured
a narrow 8-run win over Bunbury to clinch promotion and dash Woodford's hopes.

Champions :- Kingsley
Runners up :- Prestbury
Relegated :- Bunbury & Heaton Mersey

Div 3
Stretton lost their final match at Wilmslow Wayfarers, but managed to gain enough points to secure
the title. In the event, Maritime's match fell victim to the weather, leaving them as Runners Up.

Champions :- Stretton
Runners up :- Maritime
Relegated :- Wistaston & Over Peover

Div 4
Also victim of the weather was the title shoot-out with leaders Holmes Chapel visiting Old Parkonians,
thus Holmes Chapel are Champions with Old Parks as Runners Up.

Champions :- Holmes Chapel
Runners up :- Old Parkonians
Relegated :- TBA

Div 5
With Runners Up Bowdon Vale's campaign having finished last week, Champions Frodsham were denied a
Home lap-of-honour when the weather KO'd their match against Rostherne.

Champions : Frodsham
Runners up :- Bowdon Vale

Div A
Drama at the top with the 4 top teams contesting the two promotion places to the County League.
Romiley secured their promotion spot, bowling Mobberley out for a low score and a 20pt win,
but Neston went one better, taking a 25pt win from Runcorn to take the title by a single point.
Two teams are relegated to the Division B's, possibly with some adjustment to the regionalisation
make-up of the B's required. Taking the drop along with Christleton are Bredbury St Marks, who lost
a low-scoring match at fellow-strugglers Oakmere as Irby won another low-scorer at Christleton.

Champions :- Neston
Runners up :- Romiley
The two top teams will be promoted to County League 2nd XI Div 2, subject to confirmation.
Relegated :- Christleton
Bredbury SM

Div B West
Leading by 6 pts, Port Sunlight took no chances and bowled first on winning the toss against
Warrington. A comfortable 10-wkt win and 20 points was enough to clinch the title and
Promotion ahead of Upton 3rd who did their best with a 25pt win against Bunbury.
At the bottom, three will go down to the Div C's. The final relegation place fell to Kingsley,
whose 25pt win against Appleton was not enough, Stretton taking a 20pt win over Chester BH 3 to
ensure their Div B West survival.

Champions :- Port Sunlight - Champions (only) promoted to Div A
Runners up :- Upton 3
Relegated :- Warrington 3, Bunbury & Kingsley

Div B East
Joining Urmston 3rds in the Div C's are Cheadle Hulme 3 and Wilmslow Wayfarers, their fates being
sealed by Ashley's narrow defeat of Urmston & Stockport Trinity's win against Macclesfield.

Champions :- Chelford - Champions (only) promoted to Div A
Runners up :- Didsbury 5th
Relegated :- Urmston 3, Cheadle Hulme 3 & Wilmslow Wayfarers

Div C West
The Groves join Neston 4th XI in Div B West next year, beating Chester Co Officers to dash the
hopes of Chester BH 4.

Champions :- Neston 4
Runners up :- The Groves

Div C S/C
In the South/Central, Cholmondeley will be joined in the Div B's by Langley who declared as soon
as they got max batting points against Mossley. Although unable to force a win, the 14 points
gained was enough to clinch the runners-up spot despite Aston's 25pt win against Over Peover.

Champions :- Cholomondeley
Runners up :- Langley

Div C N/E
With 13 teams in the Division, teams did not all play the same number of matches, and so Average
points have been used to determine League placings. Wilmslow clinched the title ahead of Timperley
4ths (who finished their campaign last week) with a comfortable 20 pt win at Pott Shrigley, topping
the table by a mere 0.1 of a point on Average.

Champions :- Wilmslow
Runners up :- Timperley 4
