Bill Pollard

By Jon Gledhill

It is with great sadness that the League Executive has somewhat belatedly learned of the passing of our Joint President William ''Bill'' Pollard on the 27th November 2017 with his funeral on 6th December.

Bill passed away in hospital after a long and valiant fight against cancer. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends on behalf of the Executive and all member Clubs and Players.

Bill was a member at Audlem Cricket Club holding many positions including Chairman and President. He was also President of the North Staffs and South Cheshire Cricket League prior to becoming President of the Cheshire Cricket Alliance when the two Leagues merged. Subsequently Bill became Joint President of the UKFast Cricket League on the merger with the CCA.

Bill will be greatly missed by the Cheshire cricketing fraternity for his wisdom and knowledge of local cricket as well as for his friendship and wit. A fully paid-up member of the 'Old Brigade' where Fair Play and Sportsmanship came before win at any cost and dissent of any kind, whether to Umpires, Players or Opponents, was frowned upon.

His name will live on through his generous donation of 'The Bill Pollard Trophy' which is awarded annually to the winners of the League 2nd X1 Knock-Out cup.

May he rest in eternal peace
